Working with the National Approved Letting Scheme
NALS is the National Approved Letting Scheme, a licensing scheme for lettings and management agents
operating in the private rented sector. It was launched to offer a single kitemark across the sector for
consumers to recognise and have confidence in using agents who displayed its logo. The Scheme is open to
agents whether they are part of a trade association or professional body or not.
Providing such credibility also provides a level of accountability and agents must abide by strict criteria
to hold a NALS licence.
To be part of the Scheme agents must hold Professional Indemnity Insurance, operate a client account, offer
independent redress should a landlord or tenant have a complaint. One of the key criteria is that the agent
is part of a Client Money Protection Scheme to protect consumers if an agent misappropriates or uses clients
money fraudulently.
NALS has strict client accounting criteria and requires submission of an Annual Accountant’s Report by
its firms confirming compliance with NALS Accounting Standards.
NALS and C.A.R.L. — 50% Discount on NALS Application Fee!
C.A.R.L. can offer incentives to you if you wish to become part of NALS.
The administration fee to join NALS is usually £175 plus VAT, however C.A.R.L. has negotiated a
discount of 50%, enabling C.A.R.L. users to apply for only £87.50 plus VAT.

Advanced Reconciliation Service - £200 Discount!
If you are a NALS licenced firm, CARL will offer you a £200 discount on the
Advanced Reconciliation Service, to enable your firm to prepare
for your submission of the Annual Accountant’s Report. You simply need to declare your NALS licence
number to the C.A.R.L. Sales team when booking the service in order to benefit from the discount.
(Discounts cannot be given retrospectively.)
Our Advanced Reconciliation Service exists to help users master the art of pro-active client account
management, not only reconciliation of the client account but also the tracking of balances.
Undertaking reconciliation of your client account for the first time can be a daunting process: just
knowing where to start can be a challenge and then there’s the problem of what to do with historic
legacy balances.
The Advanced Reconciliation Service is there to assist at every
stage. Starting with a detailed on-site examination of your accounts, we work through the process with you,
explaining each step. At the end of the on-site visit you will be given a personalised action plan, designed
to take you step by step through the process of clearing legacy transactions and establishing an opening
balance.
Over the coming weeks our specialist accounts trainer will work with you, remotely monitoring your progress
and helping you deal with any occasional discrepancies.

C.A.R.L. Client Accounting Service — 50% Refund on annual NALS Membership!
If you’re a NALS licensed firm and subscribe to the C.A.R.L. client accounting service you are
eligible to receive a refund equal to 50% of your annual NALS subscription.
The C.A.R.L.
Client Accounting Service supports you in your business. Instead of you having to manage your accounts,
or recruit and train staff to manage your accounts, we can manage the process for you.
The service offers a range of options from “Account Reconciliation” to “Rent Management
& Account Reconciliation”. The service is designed to pro-actively manage your accounts and provide a
range of reports enabling compliance with client account regulations.
If you want to concentrate on growing your business but don’t want the hassle of managing the client
account, paying landlords and contractors, reconciling accounts or producing overseas tax and Section 19
tax returns, then the C.A.R.L. Client Accounting Service is for you.
To qualify for a refund of 50% off your annual NALS subscription you must be subscribing to the
C.A.R.L. Client Accounting Service (min 12 month agreement). To receive the refund simply pay your
NALS annual subscription when due and send us a copy of the NALS invoice. Discount applies to first
office fees only.
To benefit from this discount, you simply need to provide a copy of your NALS invoice
to the C.A.R.L. Admin team.
